How would you know if you have gout?
An involved joint becomes painful and swollen. It usually first involves the joints of the feet. If fluid is removed from a swollen joint and examined under a microscope, uric acid crystals will be found. Later on in the disease, especially after repeated attacks of gout, nodules of uric acid may form in various areas of the body.
